WAT

An Arduino Nano that emulates enough of a Korg Minipops for jazz. Or at least the sort of scratchy post-punk that old people remember. (Three Johns, Cabaret Voltaire, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, Big Black)

WHY?

Three Johns, Cabaret Voltaire, RLYL, Big Black.

HOW?

Years ago, I found the website belonging to, er, Jan Ostman, who’d created a sequence (hohoho) of fine Arduino-based synths. I got as far as breadboarding his Minipops emulation/homage, uploaded a short video of it running to the FaceAche… And then fell into the sort of depression that makes any sort of creativity the impossible work of complete strangers. Even when you have the moving documentary evidence in front of you, that it was something you did yourself.

Depression (or dissociation or whatever) is weird and unpleasant like that. Thankfully, estrogen happened and I stopped being depressed like that not many months later.

Anyway. Time passed, as is the unpleasant nature of time, and for one reason or another but probably FB memories, I remembered that had been a thing. However, in the interim Jan Ostman’s site had fallen off the internets. Some cursory websearch revealed that a set of people had taken the original and hacked on it in a few different ways.

DID IT WORK?

C0de, of a sort: An amount of grovelling on the internets seemed to be required. However, demanding that people suffer in the same way I did is a rubbish trick. Let’s see what URLs I can find.
